About Me
It has come to my attention that my readers want to know a bit more about me. Well, I can promise you that my life is definitely as thrilling as it reads. And, yeah, that was intended to be sarcasm, if you didn’t know.
I grew up and spent nearly 30 years of my life on the East Coast, where I graduated from college and landed a successful (and equally depressing) job in the health care industry. Soon after getting married to Z, his employer transferred him to Austin, Texas, where we lived for just over 3 years. Last year, a new boss landed up in the market, and it was quickly discovered that he was a giant dick – probably to make up for the small size of the original, but I’m just guessing. Many managers jumped ship quickly, and my husband was one of them. He was offered a position for a company here in Las Vegas, Nevada & we happily packed up our two kittens and moved in the summer of ’11.
Z & I expect to remain in Las Vegas for a while – maybe forever – but who knows. He currently works under a 3-year minimum contract – as he was hired to help build a new facility for his new bossman, which is gonna take quite a bit of time – so we’ll be here at least that long. But again, we’re thinking this is gonna be a long-term thing. Which means my blog will be here for the long haul.
And me? Well, I’m currently looking for a job here. As easy as it was for my husband to find one, it hasn’t been so painless for me for two reasons:
➊ The economy blows giant orangutan balls.
➋ I decided that I hate my established career and want nothing more to do with it.
So, I am starting from scratch. I’m going back to college, and this time, I have my fingers crossed that I will get a degree in a field that doesn’t make me want to vomit at the mere mention of it. So yes, I have big dreams.
And when I’m not in class or hitting the pavement in search of respectable employment, Z & I pass the time by exploring our new city. We love trying new restaurants, where I annoy my husband by insisting I take iPhone photography of our dishes and then tweeting them & sometimes even blogging about them. We also love going to shows, especially Cirque de soleil and anything resembling a musical or ventriloquist dummy. And every now and then, you might find us screaming at the top of our drunk lungs in a variety of piano bars. Yes, that was us.
So, now you are up-to-date on all things Marla. I hope this satisfies your short-term curiosity. Thanks for stopping by, and if you’re a new reader, be sure to let me know so that I can follow you back.
Oh, yeah, and here’s my first post – cuz that’s what you’re supposed to do on these “about me” pages, right? ➝ A Rough Start
